Size the cable, MCB and isolator for a dedicated immersion heater circuit to BS 7671.
Size the cable, MCB and isolator for a dedicated immersion heater circuit to BS 7671.
A standard 3 kW immersion heater draws about 13 A and must be supplied by its own dedicated radial circuit with a 20 A double-pole switch (or a DP pull-cord in a bathroom). The cable is sized so its installed current-carrying capacity — after ambient and installation-method correction — is at least the MCB rating, and the voltage drop stays within 5%.
