Find out whether a generation or storage install needs a G98 notification or a full G99 application.
Check whether a generation or storage installation needs a G98 notification or a full G99 application.
When you connect generation or storage that can export to the grid, the ENA Engineering Recommendations decide the process. G98 is a "fit and notify" route for small systems up to 16 A per phase (≈3.68 kW single-phase) — install, commission, then notify the DNO within 28 days. G99 applies above that and needs a full application and DNO approval before energising, typically around 45 working days.
Existing generation counts toward the total, so adding to an existing system can push it into G99 territory. EV chargers and standby generators that do not export are treated as loads, not generation.
