Size a distribution transformer (125% rule), estimate fault level, and select a copper busbar.
Size a distribution transformer (125% rule), estimate the secondary fault level, and select a copper busbar.
Size a transformer at least 125% of the maximum demand (load after diversity) and round up to the nearest standard kVA. The secondary fault level follows from the full-load current and the transformer impedance: If = FLC ÷ (Z% ÷ 100), which sets the minimum breaking capacity for downstream devices. The busbar is then selected so its derated rating carries the secondary full-load current.
