Check whether upstream and downstream protective devices discriminate to BS 7671 Reg 536.4.
Check whether upstream and downstream protective devices discriminate so only the device nearest a fault operates (BS 7671 Reg 536.4).
Discrimination (selectivity) ensures that on a fault, only the device nearest the fault operates — so a fault on one final circuit doesn't trip the whole board. Same-type MCBs need at least a 1.6:1 rating ratio and only discriminate below the downstream instantaneous threshold; fuses need about 2:1 and discriminate across a wider range. The checker tells you the status and the current up to which discrimination holds.
